Nuecue
Comparison

Both follow your voice. One keeps listening after you stop.

PromptSmart made voice-tracked prompting mainstream, and its VoiceTrack engine is genuinely good at it. The difference is what happens when the take ends — Nuecue still has the record of what you said and when, and uses it to cut your flubs and build your captions.

No account needed to test voice tracking. Recordings stay yours.

The short version

If you need a prompter, PromptSmart is a mature one with a hardware and team story Nuecue does not have. If your real problem is the editing after the take, that is the whole reason Nuecue exists.

Side by side

Rows where PromptSmart leads are marked as plainly as the rows where Nuecue does.

  • Voice-tracked scrolling

    Nuecue

Follows your pace, holds when you pause, resumes when you pick the script back up.

    PromptSmart

VoiceTrack — patented speech-recognition scrolling that stops when you pause or improvise and resumes when you return to script.

    Even
  • Runs on device

    Nuecue

Speech recognition and video export run in your browser. Recordings are saved locally and leave only when you export or share them yourself.

    PromptSmart

PromptSmart states its recognition runs on your computer or mobile device and does not require the internet.

    Even
  • Catches flubbed lines

    Nuecue

Retake detection marks every line you jumped back to redo, while you are still recording.

    PromptSmart

Not offered — the prompter's job ends when the take does.

    Nuecue
  • Removes them for you

    Nuecue

Smart Cut proposes cutting the flubbed first read of each retake. You approve every cut; the original take is never modified.

    PromptSmart

Not offered. Flubs are removed in a separate video editor.

    Nuecue
  • Captions

    Nuecue

Burned-in or exported from the same word-level timing record, so there is no separate transcription step or upload.

    PromptSmart

    Not offered.

    Nuecue
  • Delivery feedback

    Nuecue

A pacing coach reports on how you actually delivered the take — not just whether you read the words.

    PromptSmart

    Not offered.

    Nuecue
  • Install

    Nuecue

Nothing. It is a website — the full studio, camera recording included, runs in a mobile or desktop browser.

    PromptSmart

Native apps for iOS and Android plus a web control portal, so you install per device.

    Nuecue
  • Teleprompter rigs

Long-standing hardware workflow, including duplicate displays for multi-camera setups and inverted text for two-way glass.

  • Remote control

    Nuecue

No second-operator remote — Nuecue is built around the solo creator running their own take.

    PromptSmart

Web-based Remote Control and Control Room sessions, so a producer can drive the prompter from another machine.

Pick PromptSmart if

  • You shoot on a physical teleprompter rig with two-way glass, or run multiple camera displays from one script.
  • Someone other than the speaker drives the prompter — PromptSmart's Control Room is built for exactly that and Nuecue has no equivalent.
  • You are buying for a team and need sub-users, shared script folders, and an admin panel.
  • You want a native app you install once and run offline, rather than a browser tab.
  • Your workflow is iPhone or iPad first and you are already inside their ecosystem.

Pick Nuecue if

  • Your real bottleneck is the edit, not the read. Most of a short-form video's cost is cutting the four takes where you stumbled.
  • You want the flubs gone without opening a video editor, and you want to approve each cut rather than trust an algorithm.
  • You need captions and would rather not upload the footage to a transcription service to get them.
  • You record on whatever device is nearby and do not want to install anything.
  • You want to try the thing that actually matters before paying — the free tier has no expiry.
  • You would rather your footage stayed on your machine by default.

Questions

Nuecue vs PromptSmart, answered.

Is Nuecue just a cheaper PromptSmart?

No — they solve adjacent problems. PromptSmart is a mature prompter with a hardware and team story Nuecue does not have. Nuecue is a prompter that keeps the word-level timing record and spends it on cutting your flubs and building your captions. If prompting is all you need, price should not be the deciding factor.

Does Nuecue's voice tracking work as well as VoiceTrack?

VoiceTrack is patented, has been refined for years, and is very good. Nuecue's tracking follows your pace, holds when you pause, and resumes when you return to script — the same behaviour. The honest way to settle it is to try Nuecue free, since no account is required to test the tracking.

Which browsers does Nuecue support?

All modern ones. Chrome, Edge, and Safari — including Safari on iPhone — use the speech recognition built into the browser. Firefox has none, and Brave blocks the one it ships, so Nuecue switches automatically to a speech model that downloads once and then runs entirely on your device. You don't configure anything.

Can I switch scripts over from PromptSmart?

Scripts are plain text, so paste them in. Nuecue does not import PromptSmart's proprietary project files, and cutting or captioning takes recorded elsewhere is not supported — the cuts depend on the timing record Nuecue captures while you read.

Do I have to pay to remove my flubbed lines?

A free account includes one Smart Cut clean export so you can see the result on your own footage before deciding. After that, unlimited Smart Cut is part of Pro at $9/month or $79/year. Retake detection itself — seeing which lines were marked — is free and unlimited.

The fastest way to settle this is one take.

Read a paragraph, flub a line on purpose, and watch what gets marked. No account, no card, nothing to install.
